the new Inspiron 14R brings a fresh perspective to Dell's age-old Inspiron series of laptops. The new Dell Inspiron 14R has a much refined, cleaner look and feel. Like the Dell Vostro V13, the Inspiron 14R has its screen hinges placed not exactly on the spine of the chassis, but a little inside. The Inspiron 14R with a six-cell battery is nice and light, weighing 2.25-kg, which is great for a mainstream 14-inch laptop. It is nicely built, beautifully balanced, and isn't top heavy -- you can lift the closed screen lid with a single finger, not many laptops can boast of this.

The Dell Inspiron 14R comes with a 14-inch glossy LED-backlit screen with a 1366x768 resolution. The screen is bright enough and evenly lit, displays crisp text and is nice for watching a movie for a couple of hours. The Inspiron 14R's screen has very good horizontal viewing angles.

The Dell Inspiron 14R has very good basic building blocks. It has an Intel Core i5-430M 2.27-GHz processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM , 500GB hard drive, and an ATI Radeon HD 5470 graphics card, the Inspiron 14R has the best basic hardware configuration. It also comes with a couple of USB ports, DVD writer, HDMI, eSATA, audio ports, and multicard reader. The laptop supports wireless Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity standards. Dell bundles the Inspiron 14R with a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

Dell inspiron 14z

Design and features
 The new 14z  looks like the kind of laptop you wouldn't be embarrassed to pull out in your favorite hipster coffee shop, even if everyone else there has a MacBook.

The new designs are thin and modern, with two-tone lids -- most in either gunmetal-gray brushed metal (like our review unit) or red contrasted against a lighter border. The brushed-metal look extends to the system interior, with a sunken black keyboard tray and black keys. There's a bit of a back-and-forth feel, with your fingers touching metal one moment and plastic the next, and the construction looks just a bit sturdier than it feels in the hand. 

 The keys have more rounded corners than most, and the top row of function keys is half-height. It actually feels like there's plenty of room for bigger keys -- there's a good amount of dead space on either side.

. It has a native resolution of 1,366x768 pixels , the screen is covered with overly glossy plastic and sits in the middle of a thick all-around bezel, making it one of the only visual cues that looks a bit low-budget. 

The stereo speakers are not much to write home about. They get reasonably loud, but sound very thin, despite the inclusion of MaxxAudio software from Waves, a well-known maker of audio applications. In the row of quick-launch buttons above the keyboard, the middle button switches between MaxxAudio presets, and the leftmost button accesses a Dell settings menu. The notable part is that there's an option to either keep the row of Function keys as is, or swap their multimedia functions, which means you could raise or lower the volume, change screen brightness, and so on without holding down the dreaded Fn key.

It feels well made, has a nice white patterned finish, and it comes with good connectivity and specifications.

 It can process Full HD graphics without any problems, which means you can easily plug the L750 into your TV via HDMI to watch downloaded video content; it's also capable of running some games, such as StarCraft 2.

        

  
 

The keyboard has smoothly-finished, full-sized keys that feel soft and possess good travel. They feel a lot nicer to hit than the keys on the Portege R830, with the exception of the arrow keys, which feel a little too resistive. However, the Portege has the better touchpad. The multi-touch, gesture-supporting Touchpad on the Satellite L750 has a texture that sometimes feels like it has too much grip, making it less than a joy to use. It's designed to blend in with the palm rest and it can only be distinguished from the palm rest when you run your finger over it. We'd much prefer it to have a softer and smoother surface. We also don't like the placement of the left- and right-click buttons on the edge of the base, as they are too easy to inadvertently press.

The 13.3in screen has a native resolution of 1366x768 and a glossy finish. It's susceptible to reflections, which can be annoying, especially because changing the tilt of the screen to get rid of the reflections can cause the picture to look too pale.

Around the edges, you get plenty of useful features. A DVD burner is built in to the left side and it sits next to two USB 2.0 ports; the right side has a USB 3.0 port, which offers very quick file transfers to and from external USB 3.0 drives (especially for photos and MP3s); it also has HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, VGA, and microphone and headphone ports. You also get a webcam, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi (it's an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG adapter, which is the same adapter that's in the much more expensive ASUS N73SV desktop replacement notebook).

There are speakers located above the keyboard and they have a nice silver trim. They are adequate for a small laptop, but if you want good, loud sound you'll still have to plug in a pair of decent, amplified speakers. The only thing we don't like about the layout is the location of the SD card reader on the left side under the USB 2.0 ports. It's an inconvenient location that's hard to access without turning and lifting the notebook first.

Like most Toshiba laptops, the L750 has USB ports that support Sleep-and Charge, which can be used to charge USB-based gadgets (such as the iPhone) even when the laptop is switched off. It comes in handy while travelling as you can leave the notebook in your bag while you charge your phone. You have to make sure the laptop's battery is charged in the fist place though.
